The concept designs suggest transforming the current crossroads into a four-arm roundabout, complete with smart traffic signals. Key Features of the Proposed Designs:

  • Four-Arm Roundabout with Bus Lanes: The main change involves creating a roundabout with dedicated bus lanes to improve bus travel times and reliability.
  • Controlled Crossings: Four controlled crossings will be added at each roundabout arm to provide safer access for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • New Footpaths: New footpaths will be installed to further enhance pedestrian safety around the junction.
  • Bus Lanes on Bristol Road and New Road: The addition of bus lanes on both roads will improve bus efficiency and reduce delays.
  • Improved Traffic Flow: The new design aims to reduce the current traffic bottleneck, making the junction safer and more efficient for all road users.
  • Mitigation for Future Traffic: The proposal also considers future traffic from the Banwell Bypass, new housing developments, and Bristol Airport, ensuring the infrastructure is capable of handling increased demand.
