A big thank you to Rose Nicholls for organising a brilliant community working party down at the allotments. Over a couple of sunny (and muddy!) sessions, local plot holders came together to transform the shared community corner into a welcoming, weed-free space.
The team tackled everything from strimming back nettles and bindweed, to lifting stubborn roots that had pushed through the old membrane. In their place, a brand new layer of super mushroom membrane has been laid and topped with fresh woodchip. A much more inviting surface for everyone to enjoy.
The patio’s also had a tidy-up, and brave souls even ventured into the shed (masks on!) to start the epic clear-out.
This week, work began on the second half of the area, including planting wildflower seeds and hydrangea bulbs, courtesy of Rose and her children and laying more woodchip over the old disabled parking bay to open up the space.
It’s been a real team effort, and the results are already blooming. A huge well done to everyone who lent a hand. Your hard work is making a real difference.
If you would like an allotment, we have spaces available.
